Education is always perceived as a means of uplifting the social mobility. In a developing country like India, it becomes most important for the masses to have access to quality education. It only through education, that self development and the upliftment of the society is possible. In India, we basically have agrarian society, where a large portion of the national income comes from the national income. But with the globalized world, India is also developing into a fast pace. The IITs and IIMs rank among the best institutes worldwide. The professionals and graduates that India is producing are graded best in terms of their standards. This is the reason why in the western countries, their demands are increasing day by day. Indian education standard is globally acknowledged and also attracting students from distant parts of the world. Not in terms of technical and medical education only, but India is leaving its footprints on cultural studies, literature, art & craft, music, dance and media studies also. With the expansion in educational field, India is attracting many MNCs to set their branches in the country.

India education is structured as ten+ two+ three. In the first ten years, the students do study in schools where their basic knowledge about different subjects is structured. After the completion of ten years of education, the students enter into +2 levels, i.e. into senior secondary level. In this level, students get a chance to choose the subjects of their choice from streams- Science, Arts and Commerce. In this level, learning becomes more specific and practical based. This is the most crucial level, as after the completion of this, students enter into the world of higher education. In higher education, students can pursue education in their field of interest. Here they can go for medical, technical, or other precise subjects. This is the stage of college education. The senior secondary level, whereas, is done in the school only, means it comes under school education. In the +2 level, students are prepared for the more competitive world of higher studies.

National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) functions as a resource centre for school education and teacher education. NCERT works for the purpose of research, development, training and dissemination of educational aids. The publication of school text books, teachers? guides, and manuals are the major functions of NCERT. This resource centre also sets the school syllabus of the country. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Indian Certificate Secondary Education (ICSE) are the academic boards that conduct examinations in the secondary and senior secondary level. Apart from these, there are various state boards that conduct exams in these two levels. Steps have been taken in the last few years to universalize elementary education. Towards that end Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) is being implemented all over the country in collaboration with the State Governments. Mid-day Meal Scheme is a part of this program. As a result of these steps, the number of ?out of school? children in the age group of 6-14 has come down to less than 5% of the total population in that age group.
