With one week to go in the regular season, the St. Michael-Albertville soccer teams are continuing to jockey for playoff positioning, with the Knights boys and?girls keeping their holds on top spot in their respective?Mississippi 8 Conference races.
Girls Soccer
The STMA girls soccer team, 4-0 in the Mississippi 8, improved to 9-1-3 overall with a 7-0 defeat of Minneapolis Henry in a non-conference home game on Thursday.
Bobbi Brendefur and Paige Voigt both scored twice to lead the Knights, while Jessica Johnson, Katie Schmitz and MiCale Jensen all netted one goal apiece in the victory.
Boys Soccer
Playing its second game of the week against a ranked team from Class AA, the STMA boys soccer team lost 3-1 to No. 1 Eastview in Apple Valley on Thursday.
Justin McLain recorded the Knights' lone score, assisted by Clayton Hinrichs, while goalkeeper Drew Cramer made 10 saves against the Lightning offense.
The loss dropped STMA to 8-4-2 overall, yet the Knights remain the lone unbeaten team in the Mississippi 8, sporting a 3-0-1 conference record with two circuit games remaining.
Volleyball
Playing in its first match in a week, the STMA volleyball team swept Cambridge-Isanti, 3-0, to improve to 10-4 overall and 3-1 in Mississippi 8 play.
Individual statistics were not made available. The Knights are currently in second place in the conference, one match behind Rogers. After taking on Class A's No. 1-ranked Bethlehem Academy in a non-conference match this Monday, STMA will host Rogers at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Results were not currently available for scheduled meets involving the STMA cross-country teams.
