Hulu Plus coming to the Nintendo 3DS in November

Hulu Plus and 3D video capture will hit the 3DS by the end of November, Nintendo said this week.

Beginning in November, Nintendo 3DS users will be able to stream a range of Hulu Plus content, Nintendo announced today.

Caveats apply: You'll have to download a firmware update, and you'll have to sign up for Hulu Plus, which will set you back nine bucks a month. In a press release, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime touted the new features as evidence of the Nintendo 3DS's ability to "evolve."

On a related note, that same firmware update will allow users to record up to 10 minutes of 3D video, and create 3D stop-motion animation videos. This should make all those videos of your cat all that more exciting. (We kid!)

The Nintendo 3DS debuted in the US in late March, to generally favorable reviews. "I?m pretty comfortable saying that the Nintendo 3DS is the best gaming platform the company has ever created: The user experience is quite polished in a variety of ways, and its forward-thinking core feature really does make gaming better," one critic wrote. And Nintendo did indeed post incredibly strong first-day sales.

By June, however Nintendo had managed to unload only 710,000 3DS units ? far short of expectations. In late July, in an effort to gin up excitement in the device, Nintendo dropped the price on its 3DS from $249 to $169. It was, one pundit quipped, the "fastest post-launch price drop (by one-third) ever."

But the price drop may have worked: Last month, Nintendo said it had sold 185,000 units in the 19 days immediately following the drop. Not too shabby.
